CLIMATE-KIC

WHAT IS CLIMATE-KIC?

Climate-KIC is the EU’s largest public private partnership addressing climate change through innovation to build a zero carbon economy.

We address climate change across four priority themes: urban areas, land use, production systems, climate metrics and finance. Education is at the heart of these themes to inspire and empower the next generation of climate leaders.

We run programmes for students, start-ups and innovators across Europe via centres in major cities, convening a community of the best people and organisations.

Our approach starts with improving the way people live in cities. Our focus on industry creates the products required for a better living environment, and we look to optimise land use to produce the food people need.

Organisation

Climate-KIC connects global and local, small and large partners from the private, public and academic sectors. The split across the three sectors is approximately 50% business, 30% academic and 20% public and not for profit.

It operates through 13 centres across Europe and a headquarters in London.

Climate KIC receives funding from academic and private sector partners as well as an annual grant from the European Commission through its European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

European Institute of Innovation and Technology

Climate-KIC is one of three Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) created in 2010 by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The EIT is an EU body whose mission is to create sustainable growth. Climate-KIC supports this mission by addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Climate-KIC integrates education, entrepreneurship and innovation resulting in connected, creative transformation of knowledge and ideas into economically viable products or services that help to mitigate climate change.
